The latest OECD report has stated that Canberra is the best lived city in the world 🙂 Ref: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/canberra-named-the-best-place-in-the-worldagain-20141007-10r5sp.html
I must admit that even as someone who has lived in Canberra for a number of years I found that a little hard to accept from a global aspect. That being said Canberra is a city that has increased in size from the time I arrived which was in late 1997. Suburbs are still growing on the northern, western and southern areas around Canberra since 1997 along with some major road networks being built. The Canberra Airport in recent years has also undergone massive reconstruction to which it is just a new modern facility from what it was. I think in terms of health Canberra is in desperate need of a third hospital which is on the agenda to be built at the University of Canberra which will be a sub-acute one. Ref: http://health.act.gov.au/consumers/health-infrastructure-program/in-planning-design/university-of-canberra-public-hospital That being said some thought should go into expanding the size of the emergency ward at Calvary Public to cope with the increased population around Canberra especially for the northern side of Canberra in my opinion.
Apart from that Canberra does have some nice scenic areas around to be enjoyed and Floriade is one even that draws a lot of people to it. Floriade is an annual flower festival in the city held at Commonwealth Park. Ref: http://www.floriadeaustralia.com/ The last day for Floriade is today so if you want a look perhaps you will have to move quickly especially if you live around Canberra. I recently had a look around Floriade myself and posted some photos on my photo.net website. http://photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=1073795
Some of the things I like about Canberra are the many walking paths and bicycle paths that are off the road areas where you can walk or ride in comfort without some irritated motorist annoying you. There are some great shopping complexes around Canberra along with many restaurants which I don’t have the budget for myself but hear a lot of positive comments by people who do.
One event that also happens annually is the Canberra Balloon Festival which will be held in March 2015 (7th – 15th) on the lawns of Old Parliament House in Canberra. So if you want to plan a visit to Canberra that would be a nice time to come and explore the sites around Canberra. Ref: http://balloonspectacular.com.au/
