Hot in Canberra

The weather in Canberra as in most places around Australia today has been quite warm. The temperature in my room during the day was sitting on 30degC, but outside the temperature was recorded as being 39degC at the Canberra Airport by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Today I have spent most of my day inside as I have been running a Norton Antivirus Scan on my pc which took sometime to complete. That being said I have in past years I spent many hours working outside in the hot weather especially when I owned my own lawn-mowing-handyman-cleaning business.

The Canberra Times has featured an article called “Heatwave frequency increases as climate change takes effect” which provides some good advice in how to protect yourself from extreme heat conditions.

Some handy hints on keeping cool and being safe

  • Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids
  • Wear appropriate clothing and head-wear
  • Use sunscreen lotion to protect yourself from Ultra Violet (UV) rays
  • Keep in the shade as much as possible
  • Visit your local Shopping Centre or Library to enjoy the air-conditioning
  • Make sure your pets have plenty of cool water and keep it in a shady area or inside

Have a nice day or evening 🙂
