The Canberra Airport had their open day today which featured a number of aircraft from the past, to some of the more modern ones being used today including a mock version of the Lockheed Martin F35 fighter jet.
The history associated with the Canberra Airport is interesting to read if you live in Canberra. I never realised till now that initially the Canberra Airport was located in Dickson in 1924 but later moved to its current location in 1926. The current location of the Canberra Airport is at Majura on Pialligo Av which is east of the Canberra city area. http://www.canberraairport.com.au/corporate/about/history/
The Canberra Airport has undergone a range of upgrades in recent years and is still being built in some areas. The area around the Canberra Airport accommodates a business sector called Brindabella Business Park with a range of coloured buildings similar to the one featured below.
Some of the other areas around the airport features some large retail stores such as the Majura Park Shopping Centre housing Woolworths supermarket, Big W including Canberra’s only Big W Vision, Dick Smith, Toys”R”Us, Babies”R”Us, Lollipop’s Playland plus over 30 specialty stores and many more.
Below are some of the aircraft I photographed at the Canberra Airport open day which attracted a wide range of spectators both young and old.
